HOW IT WORKS
It's free to enter.
Sign up here to:
- download competition materials and backing track
- watch a short video on how to record yourself using Bandlab.com (a free recording tool for those with little to no experience recording themselves)
- access the first module of "The Current: Learn the Native Flute” for free
Read the Instructions included in the download (key/scale info, tempo, how the track is structured, credit requirements).
Record your own flute performance over the track - this can be a melody you compose, an improvisation, or your own arrangement. Make it yours.
Upload your track with one of the available backgrounds to YouTube, Facebook or Instagram as a reel, with proper title, description, and credits as specified in the instructions.
Submit the link to your entry by clicking "Submit Your Track Here" (below)
The finalists will be selected by our judges and featured for public voting. Judge scores (weighted more heavily) plus public votes will determine the winners.

Only one entry per person.
Can I submit AI generated music?
This is a space for creative human expression, so be creative! AI generated music will be misclassified.
Do I need to play in the same key/tempo as the original track?
Yes, to keep the backing track intact. Since players might have flutes in different keys, the backing track is provided in multiple keys. Download the one that fits your flute. Important. The tracks will be provided in both 432 and 440Hz. Choose the one that matches your flute.
What instruments can I use?
Any Native American flute, in any key. Note: If you choose to layer in other instruments (drums, voice, drone, other wind instruments), know that only the flute layer will be evaluated.
Where can I download the assets?
Click "Sign up Here" at the top of this page. Find all resources inside your free “The Current” dashboard under Competition Resources.
Can I alter/edit the video to fit my composition?
No — the idea is that everyone performs over the same piece, the way you'd be commissioned to play on someone else's recording.
Will I be judged for my recording skills?
No. You are welcome to use the tools you have available. In case you need, you can use bandlab.com, which is free - or even record on your phone or tablet.
Can I use the backing track for anything else?
The track "Portais" (EDIT) can only be used in the context of this competition. It can't be edited, reused, or repurposed for other releases or projects, or released in streaming services without permission.
Using screenshots of the video on Spotify or Apple Music track covers is also not allowed.
Will I be able to share my entry on social media?
Yes — please do! Share on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, wherever you like. It helps grow this community and gets your playing in front of more people.
Please tag: @thecurrent.flute @resonatta @bruno.justi @elemental.flutes (EDIT)
Suggested hashtags: #TheCurrentFluteChallenge #NativeAmericanFlute #SoundHealing (EDIT)
When sharing on YouTube, please make to use the video thumbnail and add the proper credits available in the downloaded folder.
Can I keep my rights to freely use my music in future projects?
Yes, 100%. We don't take any rights over your recording. If you're a finalist or winner, we'll promote your video via the YouTube/Instagram link you submit.
Winners selection and prizes
The jury will select the finalists and their compositions will be featured at www.brunojusti.com/the-current for public voting. The composers with most public votes will receive additional points that will be summed to the jury votes.
The number of winners will be based on the number of prizes available. For example, if 5 main prizes are available, 5 winners will be selected. Physical prizes will be shipped within 30 days after the announcement of the winners.
Participants will be notified about dates and deadlines via e-mail (check your spam box for music@brunojusti.com)
If I win, can I transfer the prize to someone else?
No. But you are welcome to gift it to someone once you receive the prize
Will I receive any feedback in case my soundtrack is not selected?
Due to the high volume of submissions we will not be able to provide feedback.
